A few years back I was traveling through Buenos Aires, reading Tim Ferriss's The 4-Hour Work Week, when I stumbled onto an essay called "The Tail End" by Tim Urban. It reframed how I think about time — not in years left to live, but in the actual number of visits, hangouts, and moments I have left with the people I love most.
I built this for the people in my life — friends and family — because the math is sobering in a good way. You may already be in the final chapter of your time with someone important, without realizing it. Once you see the number, you start spending your time differently.
This isn't about fear — it's about clarity. The goal isn't to make you anxious about mortality. It's to help you see, in real numbers, who and what actually deserves your limited time, so you can be intentional about it instead of assuming it will always be there.
Plug in your own life and the people who matter to you. Add the trips you want to take, the books you want to read, the hangouts with your people. Watch the number shrink into something real — then go make plans.

The Three Takeaways
1) Location matters. You'll have roughly 10x more time with people who live near you.
2) Priorities matter. Make sure your list is set by you — not by default.
3) Quality time matters. If you're in the tail end with someone, treat that time as what it is: precious.
📤 Pass it on
If this hit home, share it. Someone in your life is probably one text away from a little more clarity, too — and this only takes them two minutes.
